RDS8000 with Assan 2.4

The video on youtube(post58+) your saw is mine.

Sanwa/Airtronics RDS8000 Added Assan X8D hack 2.4Ghz module (0 min 33 sec)


Two more, with Futaba T6XH and HitecFlash 4. All these radio i connected with the Assan hack by servo connector to trainerport, and took out the FM crystal to turn off the FM freq. just don bother to look for the points on the internal board.

Turnigy 9x was no problem.

Wiring up the Turnigy 9x was a breeze. The leads and solder point were all big and spaced out enough for mortals to worlk with, and there was enough room to put everything in with a little wiggle room to spare. The biggest challenge was working around the poor fit of the PCBs with the plastic case. I spent a half hour (most with a dremel) trying to make it fit better, and ended up putting it back together the way it came from the factory - with only 4 out of 5 holes lined up mounting the 9X's "module PCB" to the back of the case.

Basically I just went off of the JR-style module pinout. The top pin (#1) is signal and the third pin from the top (#3) is switched battery voltage. Grounds are all over the place, so just choose whatever's easiest. If you don't care about keeping the module port functional, you could just solder to the backs of the pins and be done. I chose to follow the module pins down to the wires that connect them to the mainboard.

In my 9x it was the BLUE wire for signal and the GREEN wire (right next to it) for power. I confirmed this with my meter, but it was pretty obvious just from eyeballing it. I desoldered these two from the module board (the board screwed to the back half of the case) and soldered those wires to the commons on the DPDT switch, soldered the +power and signal from the Assan module to one side of the switch, and (remembering which was which) I connected the old points from which I desoldered the original leads (might need to bend the part plastic holder out of the way to get the connector out), and connected these to the 2nd side of the DPDT switch.

In other words it was just like all the diagrams. Figuring out the correct wiring was super easy. Cutting neat holes and soldering neatly were much harder for me.

I put the switch in the back between the two case screws just above the module port. I figured that way it would be so awkward to operate that I wouldn't be tempted to switching it absent-mindedly. The antenna hole I put just behind and to the right of the FM antenna hole, with the Assan antenna near the FM antenna, not quite parallel. The module itself is taped and glued to the case flat between the battery pack and the LCD screen. Behind the sticks is a tight fit, but bottom-center was much roomier.

I hope this is clear, but I have never even used a proper transmitter before , and I didn't read the instructions (while skimming this thread: "Signal, ground, power. Got it."), and I still got it right on the first try. So it is pretty straight forward. Certainly it is easier to put together than nearly any ARF plane kit.

Connect rds8000 to assan hack module via trainer port

Here r some photo show how i connect the system. hope it's help.
1st photo: 3 wire from servo extension soldered to pins on 5 pin DIN socket.
2nd photo: left is signal, center is '+', right is '-'(2 pin shorts togather).
3rd photo: connector plug is ready.
4th photo: plug in the tx.
5th photo: system setup completed by tie the module on the tx handle.

Connect Futaba T6XHs to assan hack module via trainer port

here's my method.
3rd photo: wires to pin layout. Note that lower 2 pin need to shorts togather. left(red wire) is power'+', power '-' (black wire) soldered to the housing. Orange wire is signal. So One need to connect the wire accordingly to the hack module. Basically all my setups no need to solder and messing around inside the tx body/pcb. all connect to the trainer port. All tested works for me. hope this help.

Hey guys, looks like a great tutorial thread!

I am interested in converting my Airtronics MX-3S to 2.4Ghz. The Rx's are just too expensive to run multiple cars ($99 for a 3ch Rx.)

I've looked inside, and there's no way im going to fit the module in the Tx, so it'll be on the outside.

I was wondering though if anybody had any idea of where I might find the wires to hook the module to. All the internals are on a single board and I see the synth module, but no set of three wires anywhere. I'll post pics of the board in a bit.

Hi again,

For a friend, I converted his Multiplex 3030 with a Hack module.
With a flip of the secured switch, he can now change from 35Mhz to 2.4Ghz, without disconnecting anything.
